Department: Uniform Division, Williston Police Department

3/10 - NOTICE: Chief of Police, Williston, Vermont

We are seeking a full-time professional to manage the Police Department with 14 full-time
police officers, two full-time dispatchers and one full-time administrative assistant. Williston is
a growing, progressive community with a residential population of 8,300 and a daytime
population of 18,000. The annual departmental budget is about 1.7 million. The Town seeks
someone with progressively responsible experience and the ability to manage a department with
an emphasis on service. Applicant must have a minimum of 5 to 8 years increasing responsible
experience including several years of command level experience in a comparably sized
department or larger. An Associate’s Degree or greater is required and applicant must be capable
of obtaining certification as a Vermont police officer. Current salary range is $53,300 to

Forms:

Hours: Rotating 12 hour shifts, (7 AM to 7 PM) and (7 PM to 7 AM). Officers generally work a 4 on - 4 off, 3 on - 3 off schedule. Candidate will also be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime shifts when requested.

Position Objectives:

The Williston Police Department provides a wide array of police services for the 9,000 residential citizens and almost 20, 000 visitors each day. The Williston Police Department has a team of highly motivated and professional law enforcement officers dedicated to providing excellence in public safety to our citizens. The Williston Police Department has a proud tradition of service using modern policing tools in conjunction with community oriented policing policies.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED
Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen
Candidates must possess a current Vermont drivers license
Other Requirements:
  • Pass a physical fitness exam, administered by the Vermont Police Academy
  • Oral Interview
  • Polygraph Examination - Active full-time certified officers may be exempt.
  • Psychological Review
  • Background Investigation
  • Minimum service contract (2years) for to Williston Police Department for non-certified candidates

Desirable Training and Experience

Additional consideration may be given to;
  • Candidates who have previous fulltime law enforcement experience
  • Candidates who are currently certified as full time police officers

Wages and Benefits

  • Base pay for entry level police officer, non certified is $36,253

Special Considerations

  • The successful candidate without Vermont Fulltime Certification must attend the next fulltime academy in Pittsford, Vermont.
  • The successful candidate with a current Vermont fulltime law enforcement certification will be hired at a salary commensurate based on experience.
